Specs
Would not connect via matter regardless of any setting I tried (home assistant). Device was previously connected to another wifi network prior to delivery. Sadly I missed the return deadline as it sat in a box for too long before I found the connectivity issues.
I had this product installed in minutes. The accessories include fast-connect devices for electrical connections. The base plate has many slots to accommodate screw connection to the ceiling fixture, so again, everything super-easy.The user guide is very basic, however it provides information on downloading and installing a phone app. This requires you create a Govee account. Once you've done all of that, the app can guide you through linking to Alexa. Thereafter the light is easily controlled by Alexa voice command, including color and brightness. The app is decent and worked fine for me. You can play with generic setting and create your own custom user-settings. This feature is useful if you want to deploy segmented color (rather than using as a simple multi-color light). I did not find the mapping between the app's color palette and the actual light to be accurate. However, you can generally find the color you want by trial and error. This feature could use some attention. When the light is set to 'max white' it is plenty bright enough for a small bedroom or office. If I had to guess I'd say the brightness corresponds to around 800 lumen - certainly not the 2400 lumen claimed. The price is only so-so but this may be tariff relation but that's purely a guess at an explanation. This product met expectations for a guest bedroom.
We needed a few ceiling lights that had smart home integration, and I wanted to find one to standardize on. The H60A4 looks great on paper:Matter. I want to support Matter where I can, and I prioritize the concept.bright. The brighter the better, you can always dim.RGB IC. Cool, I can use that for alerts. The first light went in more or less smoothly. The one big problem with the install was that you need to initiate Matter pairing within several minutes of the light being connected. That means if it doesn't pair or you need / want to start from the beginning, you need to pull the light down and disconnect a wire, and then replicate the install. So I thought "okay, lesson learned" on the first light. Got it connected relatively uneventfully outside of that.I forget what steps I took to get the first light connected, but I wound up with the Govee app on my phone anyway. Govee doesn't expose scenes or the RGB IC ring to Matter, so you have no control of them with the Matter protocol. The main light is bright and the price presented enough value to just use the light as that, so I gave the benefit of the doubt, continued my standardization on it, and bought another.Wiring and mounting this one was easier than the first, but that's on my house. This one, however, fought me on Matter. I eventually got it connected, then some time later it dropped off, time went by and I fiddled quite a bit, and got it connected again, then we had a power outage and it's off again. All is fine in the Govee app, at least these lights support local LAN control through that. Somewhere in there I also connected the lights to Govee2MQTT in Home Assistant. That's had more success than Matter, but still far from perfect. When they drop off, there's so much back and forth, I couldn't even tell you what I did or didn't do and what was or wasn't successful. Through all this, it was connected to WiFi and I could see it as a client in my router, so network connectivity itself wasn't an issue; quite the opposite as I could not get it configured despite that it was on my network. So as it stands now, months later, the first light is connected to both Matter and Govee2MQTT in Home Assistant. The second is connected to Govee2MQTT and is currently "Unavailable" in Matter. The unpredictability of it's dropping off doesn't help the WAF.Connectivity Pros:Matter protocolLAN control in Govee appCan use multiple control points simultaneously: Matter, Govee2MQTT, Govee LAN, AlexaConnectivity Cons:Erratic reliabilityDoesn't expose all features through Matter. Using their app kinda defeats the purpose.Inconsistent Matter setupUnpredictable connectivity and detectionSo it's too bad because even just using it as the main light on Matter for the price could be good enough, but the value the light gives is offset by the time I have to put into it. I'm stopping my standardization here at two lights, and will be looking for another light for installations and probably to eventually replace these.
Works great with other Govee products, however; they have a tendency to drop WiFi very often (which can be a pain) also, they will turn on without you asking them too.The price point isn't too steep, and the installation was pretty simple. Just make sure you turn the power off at the breaker box before installation. They are very bright and uses many of the same patches other Govee lights use; emersing you in its ecosystem.
This light was absolutely perfect for my room. Its size was perfect because I have lower ceilings, so it does not hang down too low. The design in modern and it functions like a modern device. Through the app, the color options are almost limitless. It can be brightened and dimmed to really dial in a precise lighting mood. The light is super bright on max setting. It uses the same app as all my other Govee lights, so I was already familiar with it. The app is fantastic because it is easy to use and setup, plus I can control all my home lighting through it. There are other options to control the light, but personally I like to keep it simple with the phone app. I would recommend this brand to others because of the consistent quality and variety of lighting options.
